Year So Far

Not any travel to view art during this year so far, because of so many events being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Hoping to travel more later this month and this summer. 

This Year at Fondren After Five

The first event of the fall season for this show.  It is once a month, usually on the first Thursday.  My visit was early in the evening, so not much crowd, just setting up.  My visit was to Interiors Market store, Brown's art gallery, and street artists.  Actually I enjoyed not having to weave through crowds.  I probably will not get to attend the other months of the show this year.  Found some nice, and useful, items. 

Bridgewater Show

Visited this arts and crafts show at Bridgewater community in Madison County.  It was in the clubhouse of the area's apartments and other buildings.  Lots of jewelry, Easter items, some paintings and other art.  Most of the items were small, which people could buy for gifts.  Enjoyed the visit. 

The Cedars 2018

This week I visited the Cedars art show in Jackson.  I was unable to attend the reception, but the building was open for viewing the rest of the show run.  There were many interesting artworks, in various categories such as Paintings, Drawings, Mixed Media, Arts and Crafts, and Photography.  I liked the Paintings best.  Some were sold.  The reception always has a large crowd.  Perhaps next year I will be able to attend again. 

Local Shows

Lately I have been to two art receptions at the MS Library Commission.  That location took some time off from art shows, but now it is participating again.  The first was a portrait exhibit, very traditional.  The most recent was more abstract and expressive in nature.  I am glad they have begun again, and I hope to visit more of their exhibits. 

Crystal Springs Tomato Festival

This is a large event with hundreds of booths.  Vegetables are sold, and tomatoes sold out.  Arts and crafts were about average.  One hundred years ago, my grandfather worked here one summer.  So here I was.  Nice people, not very interested in buying art.  Good parking. 

MS Museum of Art

Recently I visited the MS Museum of Art in Jackson for the bicentennial exhibit of Mississippi.  It contained art works both instate and on loan from out of state locations, subject Mississippi.  They were Mississippi artists.  My favorites were all the landscapes, the George Ohr pottery, and the Triple Elvis print by Warhol.  Also next door I visited the Art Center with some paintings and the exhibit of ballet tutus.  It was all so refreshing and interesting.  I had not seen a lot of those paintings before.  The tutus were fantastically beautiful, too.
